Head of Corporate Partnerships

Friends of the National Zoo is looking for a mission-focused, seasoned, entrepreneurial, strategic, and process-minded leader who has experience scaling corporate partnerships programs. This highly visible role is known as the Head of Corporate Partnerships, will report directly to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), and is accountable to lead the work of the Partnerships Team to identify, cultivate, and secure new corporate and media partners, as well as renew existing partnerships. They will conduct research, make calls, develop proposals, and identify new ways to increase event and program revenue through sponsorship and cause marketing. They will also manage sponsorship benefit fulfillment related to events, programs, and exhibit sponsorships.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Lead the strategy, organization, and execution of corporate partnership/fundraising/cause marketing activities. Conduct research on potential corporate partners, write proposals and prepare presentations.
  2. Oversee major corporate partnership stewardship. Serve as liaison between organization and sponsor, ensure that all sponsorship benefits are fulfilled.
  3. Actively work with the COO, and FONZ senior leadership to design and implement a comprehensive, partnership development plan that includes specific goals and measurable performance objectives to develop and expand relationships with a diverse group of organizations.
  4. Oversee the acquisition and retention of corporate sponsorship support for designated annual events. Assume primary sponsorship responsibility for ZooFari, ZooLights, Brew at the Zoo, Boo at the Zoo, Night of the Living Zoo, and Zoo Uncorked, among others.
  5. Oversee VIP package sales for FONZ ticketed events and coordinate/execute all related private tours.
  6. Build a network of in-kind support for major events and programs, including product, transportation, accommodations, and media support.
  7. Secure media support for major events and programs. Seek broadcast and print sponsorship support; work with NZP (National Zoological Park) and FONZ Communications to develop strategy and implement promotional plan.
  8. Identify and develop new sources of revenue for FONZ through community partnerships.
  9. Prepare and manage annual budget for Partnerships team.
  10. Contribute to the overall strategy development and implementation of FONZ special events, promotions, and projects.
  11. Work closely with the marketing team to design and implement communications initiatives associated with sponsorship.
  12. Assist in coordinating logistics related to corporate sponsorship support for all major special events. Directly correspond with sponsors, serve as an onsite event contact, and prepare all event review packages.
  13. Track and document all corporate proposals, meetings, solicitations, and donations for both cash and in-kind partners; interface closely with NZP Advancement Office to coordinate efforts and seek approval for sponsorship requests.
  14. Work with members of the Board of Directors to build their skills and success at fundraising for the organization.
  15. Serve on special committees as needed; propose opportunities to drive visitation, membership, and revenue.
  16. Supervise partnership department interns/assistants as needed.
  17. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, including the code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives. 
  18. Other duties as assigned.

 

Abilities/Skills:

  1. BA or BS degree with concentration in Business Administration or Communications; Master's degree preferred
  2. 10+ years of experience in corporate/ non profit work environment
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  4. Excellent personal relations and team building skills especially writing proposals, interfacing with clients, planning and promoting special events are a plus
  5. Strong project management skills. Ability to meet deadlines
  6. Working knowledge of planning, managing and executing special events
  7. Working knowledge and real-world experience in planning, managing and executing promotions and social media initiatives
  8. Organized, solid attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and focus in a fast-paced environment
  9. Ability to think creatively and to work to overcome roadblocks
  10. Ability to quickly and effectively gather information by means of direct communication, research, etc
  11. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  12. Knowledge of search engine optimization and search engine marketing integration
  13. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
